The Semmelweisklinik Arts and Cultural Center is a self-managed cultural hub located in Vienna’s 18th district.
Together with a small team of allies, I founded the Semmelweisklinik Arts and Culture Centre in June 2022 on the site of the former Ignaz Semmelweis Women's Clinic, and I currently serve as its managing director. The 3,800 square metre building is an interim use, currently planned to run for 4.5 years.
Driven by a shared vision of creating affordable space for independent artistic and cultural production, exchange, and inclusive community-building, the centre has since developed into a dynamic environment housing 40 studios, six public event spaces and several communal and workshop areas.
Striving to balance accessibility with financial sustainability, we continuously explore new ways of fostering a diverse, creative, and resilient society, guided by non-hierarchical structures and collaborative approaches.
By 2024, the centre had become a working base for approximately 95 artists and cultural practitioners. We hosted 16 residencies, established five ongoing event series, organised numerous individual events, and facilitated over 100 external productions.
